Turning a new page

Pages on Prayer

I mentioned some time back that I’m looking into ways I can make becomingflame.com more helpful. A step in that direction is this new page on prayer. I offer it with the prayer that God might use it in ways only God can imagine. Grace and peace to you…dw

Up to its knees in the past

Reflecting again on the nature of hope brings me back to a quote from Frederick Buechner I posted last year.

Click through to see where I think hope ends.

Then at last we see what hope is and where it comes from, hope as the driving power and outermost edge of faith. Hope stands up to its knees in the past and keeps its eyes on the future…shall is the verb of hope.

dw piano music

As we move into the season of Lent this coming week and ponder the mysteries of our longings and fallibility, of Jesus’ willingness to be falsely accused and unjustly executed, of his final victory over darkness and death and what that means to us…I offer this piano setting of a poem I wrote based on John Donne’s Holy Sonnet 10, known for it’s opening line “Death be not proud”.

Grace and peace to you…
